Default Is it worth buying this game?

Do people think it's worth buying this game now with GW 2 in the horizons?

If you want GW1 just because of GW2, it's definitely NOT worth it.
Whole lore can be found at GW2 wiki and all bonuses you get from Hall of Monuments are aesthetic only.
GW2 is going to be a lot different from GW1, so interface and gamestyle will be different as well.

But if you want to play GW1 for fun, then it IS worth it. GW1 is the best MMO, because it's not like every other MMOs. All other WoW-likes bore you after a few days because you know what will come evem before you have started. GW1 is still having a big number of players after nearly 7 years despite the community is dying.
It's highly recommended to try free trial and then decide.

But why do you ask? Your join date is 2006 and title Jungle guide says you've been pretty active on GWG.

I wouldn't get it if your intent is to continue playing it for a while, as when GW2 comes out later this year pretty much everyone will jump ship. However, if you just want something to do before GW2 and find a copy for cheap, I don't see why not.

Yeah pretty much just looking for something to do before GW2. I just not sure if it's worth buying it. Is there a lot of activity still in the game?

Sagittario, you're right, WoW clones and WoW are boring and stressful, the reason for my join date is, I had 2 accounts and unfortunately both of them were hacked, after the second time trying to get it sorted with support I just gave up.

I don't think the question is if Franco should buy the game since their join date on guru is 2006 but if in general new comers should buy it, in which case I would say yes they should to get the lore and anything else that may be of interest with regards to GW2, albeit as Sagittario said giving the trial a go first would help them decide about gw1 itself but has no correlation to how gw2 will play.

Edit lol Ninja within the same minute

Buy Guild Wars if you want to play Guild Wars. Other games won't stop you.

What classes are fun to play in PvE at the moment? I'm looking at class skills and everything looks so different from before, even Unyielding Aura was buffed haha. Are people use Shadow Prison again?

Yes, if you intend to play GW2 you should pick this up and get your HOM to 30/50 to get all the cool ass stuff in GW2.

Player base may be dwindling but its still very high considering its a 7 yr old game, just join one of the decent guilds and it doesn't matter how many people play the game, so long as 80 people in your guild play a lot you could be the only 80 players left and still have a blast playing.

All this talk of this game has 5 million players, well this game has 10 million players... its retarded seeing as everyone plays with the same 20 or so people all the time anyway lol. If you get a solid group of friends to play with this game is just as good as it was 7 years ago

If you still have something that can prove you're the real owner of the accounts Anet can give them back to you and you don't have to buy anything.
And there's still a lot of life in GW.

You can now use 7 heroes, so you don't actually need other people all the time.

Just as a quick response to your original question. If you are willing to take the time to play through and enjoy the game then by all means get it. But if you want GW1 simply to boost your HoM for rewards in GW2, it is not worth it. You can look up lore on wikis and you won't miss anything in GW2 except the rewards that no one knows if they are any good yet.
